Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Milos Vucevic, Minister of Health Danica Grujicic, Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation Jelena Begovic, Minister of Public Investments Marko Blagojevic, and Acting Director of the Institute for Virology, Vaccines, and Serums "Torlak" Luka Dragacevic were among those who took part in the tour.
The Prime Minister stated that biotechnology is the future, a convergence of information technology, artificial intelligence, and all things related to life science. She emphasized that, as a result of the development and implementation of such initiatives, young people will remain in our nation since they would be able to work and learn in the most sophisticated institutions in the world.
Vucevic stated that the Ministry of Defense is a reliable partner and, along with other ministries, the bearer of activities in the implementation of this project, which is of strategic importance for Serbia's future development, primarily in terms of health, but also of the security of our citizens and the state.
"Serbia invests extremely large funds in order to develop the innovation system through the construction of NTPs and the establishment of scientific innovation centers in smaller areas, but also by networking all institutions in order to become a great support for both science and economic development," said Dr. Jelena Begovi, Minister of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation.
The minister emphasized that Serbia will not be an observer in the world of science, but rather a creator of its own future, and that the construction of the BIO4 campus, a platform that brings together academia, the private sector, and startup centers, is of critical importance for science in our country at this time.
Grujicic stated that the BIO4 campus will improve the "Torlak" Institute's working and research circumstances.
Together with the BIO4 campus, the "Torlak" Institute will become a center of both science and production, as well as a true example of how the entire bioproduction should be further expanded, she said, adding that the recovery of "Torlak" has already begun and will be continuing with this project.
The minister assessed that the conditions for keeping animals will be improved here, emphasizing the significance of the fact that the construction of facilities will modernize the plant for the production of serum against snake venom, which is in short supply not only on the European but also on the global market, and which Serbia successfully exports.
Another significant gain is the production plant for microbiological dry media for the diagnosis of various pathogenic diseases, which provides the state with significant independence in this field of research, said Grujicic, emphasizing that by improving science, medicine, and health conditions for all citizens are improved.
BIO4 campus, which stands for four important areas: biomedicine, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and biodiversity, is a one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary project in the region that would contain scientific institutes and faculties.
